MCCL's legislative agenda
Since 1968, MCCL has been dedicated to the single issue of protecting innocent human life. During the 2016 legislative session, MCCL will actively and aggressively lobby with the goal of securing protections for innocent human life by working to pass the following pieces of pro-life legislation:
All abortions result in the death of a living human being, but dismemberment abortion is a particularly cruel procedure. New MCCL-backed legislation would prohibit the second-trimester abortion method known as dilation and evacuation (D & E). It involves dismembering the young human being in utero. Instruments are used to grasp parts of the fetus (like arms and legs) and tear them out piece by piece. The head is often crushed before it is extracted from the womb. The unborn child bleeds to death as it is torn limb from limb. A total of 704 D & E abortions were performed in Minnesota in 2014, according to the Minnesota Department of Health. It is the most common abortion technique employed after the first trimester. Please support this legislation. Read more ...
Ban Taxpayer Funded Abortions
As a result of the Minnesota Supreme Court's 1995 Doe v. Gomez decision, all Minnesota taxpayers fund abortions. The state pays more than $800,000 per year for about 3,400 abortions, or more than one-third of all abortions performed. We must work to end taxpayer funded abortions. Please support H.F. 607 and S.F. 683. Read more ...
License / Inspect Abortion Facilities
Planned Parenthood opened the third-largest abortion facility in the nation in St. Paul in December 2011. Currently, abortion facilities are not regulated or inspected in Minnesota; that needs to change. As evidenced in other states, unsanitary conditions, untrained staff and improper abortion techniques can lead to death or serious harm of women. It is time for Minnesota to outline basic regulations and begin inspections of abortion facilities, just as it does for other outpatient surgical centers. Please support H.F. 606 and S.F. 616.
